"Displaying the
glory of God by delighting in Him and declaring His Truth."
Dear Christ Our Hope Family:
August 12, 2008
John 18:19
The high priest then questioned Jesus about His disciples, and
about His teaching.
Empty religion—a trap
that has ensnared many people, keeping them from having a true relationship with
God. As we saw on Sunday, Annas the “High Priest” was at the top of the
“religious” pile, yet did not know God. How brazenly he accused our Savior, even
allowing one of his henchmen to strike Christ. Yet, each of us must be careful
that the trap of religion does not entangle our Christian life. Even true
Christians can go through seasons where their spiritual life is propped up by
religious externals. How are you doing in continually pursuing an intimate
relationship with Christ?
As we go through this
section in the gospel of John, my heart continues to be drawn to observing
deeply Christ’s crucifixion and the events leading up to it. One of the things
that has impacted me is reading through the crucifixion account over and over in
the Gospel of John and the other Gospels (Matt. 26:36-27:66; Mark 14:32-15:47;
Luke 22:39-23:56; John 18-19). As I continually read through John’s account and
the other Gospels, I am being drawn to see Christ more and more as I see how He
voluntarily gave Himself up to die for our sins. I would encourage you to spend
time consistently observing Christ’s death and the events leading up to it. Your
life will be impacted deeply.

Peak 7 Backpack trips-Please Pray
This week there are two
backpacking trips going on for our youth and friends they are reaching out to.
Trey Nichols is leading a group of boys, and Katie Kimball is leading a group of
girls. Please be praying for these two groups that as they are out in God’s
creation they would see Him more clearly. Pray that the unbelievers
participating would be open to God’s truth and that the believers would be
encouraged in their personal walk with God. Pray also for safety for the groups
and wisdom for Katie and Trey as they lead.
Church Picnic
This Sunday, August 10th , right after
our morning service, we will have another COHBC church picnic at the field of
Trent Elementary. This is a time to have extended fellowship and to have fun
together as a church. Bring your own lunch—if you would like to bring to bring
some things to share great. We will have drinks available (water and lemonade)
If you would like to play games, bring balls and Frisbees and game equipment.
Hopefully, Lord willing, the weather will be warmer this week!
Prayer
Thank-you for praying
for Marge Ackerly
. She is doing well and has been discharged from the hospital.
She is recovering well from her hip surgery and the intestinal issue seems to be
resolved. Keep Praying.
Jo Nichols
has also been discharged from the hospital and is doing well. Pray for
her full recovery and that her heart would be encouraged in Christ.
Hoping in Him,
John
